Nigel Kat, S.C.

Nigel Kat SC has practised in Hong Kong since 1983. He has an outstanding human rights and administrative law practice. He successfully conducted the landmark same-sex marriage employment and taxation rights case: Leung Chun Kwong Angus v. SCS [2017] 2 HKLRD 1132, [2018] 3 HKLRD 84, (2019) 22 HKCFAR 127 and 282, heralded as an “important victory and a huge step forward for equality”. He recently persuaded the HK Court to declare a same-sex egg donor married overseas to the birth mother to be a “parent at common law,” a novel legal concept: NF v R [2023] 5 HKLRD 58.
